Action on delays with occupancy permits

The Property Council is working with the Building Commission to resolve delays encountered with applications for occupancy permits associated with the private certification process in the new Building Act.

The commercial property sector is equally affected by the changes as the residential home builders who are encountering delays in approvals for new building permits. Lengthy delays are being encountered in processing of applications for approvals of new retail and office fitt-outs.

The Minister for Commerce, Simon O’Brien has acknowledged the concerns in the commercial property sector and he has informed the property Council that changes to the regulations will occur. An announcement is expected to address the delays in obtaining building occupancy permits along with proposed solutions for in the housing sector.
