The Perth Waterfront precinct has been named Elizabeth Quay in honour of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II during her Diamond Jubilee year.

The announcement came ahead of the celebration of the first Western Australia Day on Monday 4th June.

Last month, Mr Barnett and Planning Minister John Day officially marked the start of construction on the $440million project which will transform 10ha of prime riverfront land into a contemporary development, set around a 2.7ha inlet and connected by promenades and boardwalks.

Works to construct the inlet are scheduled to start in late 2012 with all the public realm and inlet works on track for completion in mid-2015.
