The Property Council of Australia welcomes the opportunity to provide this submission to the Heritage Act Review Panel chaired by Ms Gabrielle Kibble AO on the NSW Government's review of the Heritage Act 1977. We note that the Panel is to prepare a report to the Minister for Planning on its findings and recommendations.
The Property Council of Australia is the peak national representative of the property industry. Our members help shape, finance and build our cities and have a long-term interest in the future of our urban areas. Our members include the bulk of the state's investors in office buildings, shopping centres, industrial parks, tourism accommodation and infrastructure, and major developers of commercial and residential property.
Property Council members own and conserve many hundreds of millions of dollars worth of heritage assets around the country.
As an important public policy issue the Property Council affirms our support for the principle of formal heritage protection and conservation.
