Draft Redfern Waterloo Built Environment Plan (Stage One)

The Property Council of Australia wishes to make the following comments in relation to the recently exhibited draft Built Environment Plan for the Redfern Waterloo area. We apologise for the delay in providing these comments.

We congratulate the Redfern Waterloo Authority on this excellent first step in facilitating the renewal of a unique and challenging part of Sydney. We believe the comments provided in this submission will assist the Government in realising its vision for the area.

The dedicated urban renewal authority model

The Property Council strongly supports the establishment of a separate, focused urban renewal authority to deliver the Government’s economic and social objectives in the Redfern Waterloo area.

The speed at which the Build Environment Plan was delivered and its general high quality demonstrate the benefits of a renewal authority approach to managing major urban renewal projects.

We would encourage the NSW Government to consider the further use of such authorities as per our 2004 submission on the Sydney Metropolitan Strategy.
