As part of its push for local government reform, the Property Council commissioned research into the views of citizens across the state.
The poll, conducted in May 2011 by Enterprise Marketing and Research, showed overwhelming support for reform:
+ 67 percent of Tasmanians think 29 councils and 281 councillors is too many;
+ 69 percent of Tasmanians believe there is a need for council amalgamations;
+ 74 percent believe councils would save money if they were to merge;
+ 86 perccent believed that councils should operate within their budgets without the need for rate increases; and,
+ only 50 percent believe council services provide value for money.
