The Property Council commended the State Government's establishment of the Building Industry and Special Projects Inspectorate.
Executive Director of the Property Council in WA, Mr Joe Lenzo, said, "The Government's unit should assist to end the unnecessary industrial action in construction industry."
"The move by the Gallop Government will help to restore some business confidence to the construction sector."
"The union industrial action which commenced following Labor's election win threatened property investment and jobs in WA."
"Our members, that is property owners and developers, have suffered financially from the union campaigns to introduce a no ticket, no start arrangement."
The Property Council wrote to the Minister for Labour Relations on 27 February seeking the establishment of a system where Government or police officers with the necessary knowledge of industrial and criminal laws were available to assist at sites where there was industrial trouble.
The Property Council supports the Minister's commitment to give the new unit greater powers, if they are necessary.
Mr Lenzo said, "Our members will let us know if unnecessary disruption continues. If it becomes apparent that the new unit lacks resources, we will be seeking immediate action from the Government."
