The EDS Centre has been awarded the property industry’s most prestigious Property Council Rider Hunt Award for 2000.
The award was presented at the Botanic Gardens Restaurant this evening by the Minister for Transport, Planning and the Arts, the Hon Diana Laidlaw.
Each year the Property Council of Australia gives an award for excellence to a building in each state, before choosing a national winner.
Property Council’s SA Executive Director Mr Bryan Moulds, said that in determining the award, judges examine a number of criteria including owner and user satisfaction, operation and maintenance efficiency, adaptability, design and finish quality, occupant facilities, service qualities, industry and community perception, and economic and financial factors.
Mr Moulds said, "anyone involved in the property industry knows that a quality building involves more than just bricks and mortar."
He said, "The award recognises excellence in efficiently employing capital to produce a quality building."
"This year’s judging panel, chaired by the Land Management Corporation’s Jay Hogan, concluded that the EDS Centre most successfully fulfilled the judging criteria," Mr Moulds said.
"With its high quality design and finish, adaptability and relationship to the built environment, the EDS Centre reinforces the idea that "smart businesses need smart buildings," Mr Moulds said.
"The building, which was developed by Hansen Yuncken Pty Ltd was clearly designed for the specific needs of its principle tenant EDS, demonstrating that it is a state-of-the-art intelligent office building with its information technology and international foci," Mr Moulds said.
"The design, materials used, 15-year maintenance contract, easy access to services and the quality of tenants should ensure that this project becomes a sound investment and provides economic benefit to all involved stakeholders," Mr Moulds said.
"It is undoubtedly setting a new benchmark for commercial office space, and has been a catalyst in attracting others to this developing IT precinct of Adelaide playing a key part in the rejuvenation of the North Terrace area of the City," Mr Moulds said.
The judges also presented an Award of Merit to the Birdwood National Motor Museum at Birdwood due to its high rating against the judging criteria.
The EDS Centre will automatically be nominated to represent South Australia at the 2000 Property Council National Property Congress in Darwin in July and will compete against interstate developments.
