The Carbon Price is here and so too are many reports of how business costs will increase as a direct result. WSP's Alan Davis discusses tangible ways of reducing a building owner’s exposure to increasing energy costs driven by the Carbon Price and increasing electricity network charges to your business.

Alan looks at the concept of implementing an energy hierarchy within a business; being lean, clean and green, with particular attention to commercial energy efficiency technologies (lean) and efficient supply options (clean - such as tri-generation systems at building or precinct scale). Here are some key points from his article:

• Commercial energy efficiency is the most effective option for mitigating a building owner’s exposure
• Installation or connection of a tri-generation system could see building owners save up to 50% of their electricity bills
• Precinct tri-generation systems will reduce overall electricity prices through reduction in peak demand and therefore infrastructure investment
• Be an early adopter of tri-generation and take advantage of financial incentives
The cost of electricity to businesses will increase, not just because of the introduction of the Carbon Price, but also through an increase in electricity network changes.
