As part of the Planning System Reform Project currently being undertaken by ACTPLA, validation has been identified as a high priority in terms of reviewing day-to-day processes, practices and procedures.

From 4 October there will be no requirement for validation for residential, dual occupancy, and lease variation development applications.

Property Council Executive Director, Catherine Carter, said that the elimination of validation for these Development Applications is a step in the right direction.

“We have argued strongly for more transparency and less bureaucracy in the way the ACT Government processes Development Applications, and we have questioned the value of the validation process. Any reduction in red tape has our whole hearted support.

“ACTPLA is on the right track, and we look forward to a broader application of this reform across remaining development types,” Ms Carter said.
