Dear Editor,
Re: Wollongong Harbour Redevelopment
David Fuller is dead right about the need to sympathetically revitalise Wollongong Harbour (November 26, 2008).
Sadly, some members of our community feel disillusioned by the thought of improvements for Wollongong Harbour, despite not yet knowing the options.
We would encourage all in the community to be patient with the process. It will allow for community commentary on specific proposals, but we are at a commercial tender stage and some commercial confidentiality is entirely normal practice and to be expected.
This region has two options in its response to the ICAC revelations. We can turn introspective and attempt to halt all progress. Or we can clean up our act, introduce robust (but efficient) planning processes and get behind great new projects for the region.
Only the latter option gives us the chance to grow jobs, provide housing and improve our city in keeping with our beautiful natural environment.
Let’s give the revitalisation of Wollongong Harbour a chance.
Yours sincerely
Geoff Jones
