The Department of Environment and Heritage Protection (EHP), as a result of reviewing its IDAS referral triggers under the Sustainable Planning Regulation 2009, has removed a number of triggers.
The triggers include:
- two advice triggers relating to wetlands
- three advice triggers relating to conservation estate
- two advice triggers relating to cultural heritage
- three concurrence sub-triggers relating to coastal management.

By removing these triggers, these applications can now be considered without the need for EHP’s advice, saving time and money for applicants.
The following benefits are expected:
- removal of the wetlands triggers will provide an estimated reduction of 820 development applications to EHP / year
- removal of the conservation estate triggers will provide an estimated reduction of 354 development applications to EHP / year
- removal of the cultural heritage triggers will provide an estimated reduction of 78 development applications to EHP / year
- removal of the coastal management sub-triggers will provide a reduction in regulatory complexity.
The removal of these triggers took effect from 3 August 2012.
