The property industry and governments have come together for the first time to promote investment opportunities in Queensland, and build stronger partnerships across these key sectors.
The Smart Growth Assembly, jointly hosted on 1 June 2012 by the Property Council of Australia and Local Government Association of Queensland (LGAQ), featured presentations and discussions with leaders from the property industry and local and State Government.
Minister for Local Government, Hon. David Crisafulli MP, presented a clear vision for Queensland, where State Government, local government and the property industry work together to achieve better outcomes for our communities.
Six mayors from growth councils throughout Queensland encouraged further investment in their regions, and pledged to work with the property industry to streamline development assessment and create certainty in their planning systems.
With projections clearly indicating Queensland will see continued levels of population growth over the next 20 years, our panellists from both sectors reinforced that action must be taken now to provide for this growth.
Infrastructure funding and delivery were cause for some debate, as vested parties struggle to agree on the best model to resolve this contentious issue.
Assistant Minister for Planning Reform, Ian Walker MP, wrapped up the inaugural event by providing an update on the Government’s 100 day action plan, and reaffirming the commitment to growing a four pillar economy.
Thank you to the LGAQ for their assistance in jointly hosting the first annual Smart Growth Forum.
