$181 million from the Housing Acceleration Fund has already been spent in Sydney, the Illawarra, Wyong and Port Macquarie to boost housing supply. $300 million remains budgeted.
Advice has recently been provided to Hunter MP’s and the Department of Planning and Infrastructure on how some of those funds could be used to accelerate greenfield housing supply in the Lower Hunter.
Our advice is focused on;
-
Identifying impediments at major release areas
-
Pinpointing the agency involved
-
Providing real cost estimates
-
Quantifying the “bang for buck”, i.e. how many new homes will be delivered sooner?
While the Hunter continues to experience the largest population increase in regional NSW, we need a share of those funds to help release new residential land. Certainty regarding infrastructure provision will break the supply deadlock in strategic urban release areas, stimulate the economy and get construction moving.
