Wollongong City Council will develop a night-time economic strategy with the aim of smoothing the way for new business ideas that enliven the city’s nightlife, including small bars and art venues.

WCC City Centre Revitalisation Manager Mark Grimson said council will combine the expertise of representatives from its operations to fast-track the development application process for businesses with the potential to activate the city at night.

He said 40% of the economy in Sydney came from evening activities and there was the potential to increase opportunities in Wollongong.

The group will take an interest in new bars, cafes, restaurants, shops and art venues where they have a night-time component to their operations.

The City Centre Revitalisation team located in WCC’s IHub building at 93 Crown St is the first point of contact for new business enquiries.
