The Property Council supports the initiative taken by South Sydney Council to develop a masterplan for the Green Square Town Centre which will lead the renewal of a disused industrial area into an active, rejuvenated town centre.
The balance between employment and housing objectives contained in the masterplan and local environmental plan demonstrates South Sydney Council’s commitment to encouraging a sustainable community with up to 8,000 new workers and 4,500 new residents to be located in the town centre.
Council’s attempt to integrate the masterplan with the local environmental plan and an implementation plan is acknowledged and represents a new approach toward the delivery of urban infrastructure.
Generally, the industry is supportive of incentive based schemes which reward an applicant for the payment of a monetary contribution.
There are however a number of issues relating to the package of documents which raise concern and require further clarification.
