The Property Council of Australia (ACT) today congratulated John Robertson on his appointment as the new Chief Executive Officer of the Land Development Agency.

Property Council ACT Executive Director Catherine Carter said:

“The Property Council wishes to express its support to John and to the new Board in expediting the release of residential, industrial and commercial land in the Territory.

“It is important that the new Board and its Chief Executive dramatically increase output and cut through the lengthy processes and red tape which have led to significant shortages of land in the past.”

In recent months the Property Council has been pleased with the improved level of communication and dialogue between the LDA and industry, and encourages the LDA to continue to work constructively with the private sector.

Ms Carter said that the Property Council will continue to press both the LDA and ACTPLA to ensure that the pressures for land release which have appeared in the market are addressed quickly, and that arrangements are in place to ensure flexibility in what can sometimes be a rapidly changing and dynamic market.

“Sites for residential, industrial and commercial land need to be identified now, planning outcomes expedited and land put out to the market.

“We look forward to working positively with the new LDA leadership team going forward. As always, regular dialogue between government and the private sector will assist government to be both reactive and flexible in response to market demand, to achieve the best outcomes for the people of Canberra,” Ms Carter said.
