The West Australian Government has wasted a rare opportunity to combine more infrastructure investment with supporting tax reform in the 2006-07 State Budget.
Joe Lenzo, Executive Director of the Property Council of Australia (WA Division), said the failure of the State Government to contain spiraling government expenditure has robbed the State economy of affordable tax cuts.
"The State Government has failed to measure up to the Federal Budget, which earlier this week delivered strategic infrastructure investment with tax cuts.
"The big problem with the State Budget is that it jeopardises future tax cuts. State Government expenditure is rising at an unsustainable rate and at the expense of future tax payers.
"The absence of tax reform in the 2006-07 State Budget means the State economy will not fully harness the benefits of the Budget?s boost to infrastructure investment," he said.
