The Property Council of Australia welcomes Premier John Brumby’s announcement of the creation of a new super department that will look after planning issues.
The Department of Planning and Community Development is a positive way to ensure that housing affordability, liveability and urban issues are tackled providing they are appropriately addressed.
Building communities in the outer suburbs is positive as long as infrastructure and employment lands are also created to support them. People need to be able to work relatively close to where they reside for these communities to prosper.
The onus is now on the Government to deliver substantial infrastructure and services to sustain these communities.
We also welcome today’s appointment of John Lenders as Treasurer of Victoria.
The Property Council has had dealings with Treasurer Lenders in the past when he was Finance Minister. We always found him eager to listen and understand the issues.
We look forward to working with him on issues affecting the industry, particularly taxation and regulatory matters.
