A Resolution Research study has found the Sunshine Coast’s economy doubled in size over the past decade, and future public and private infrastructure investment is estimated at more than $4.35 billion.
The research, commissioned by Maroochydore-based Reed Property Group, predicts an increase in population to more than 500,000 Sunshine Coast residents in 20 years’ time. The population currently stands at 320,000 inhabitants.
Projects in the pipeline on the Sunshine Coast include the $2 billion Sunshine Coast University Hospital, which on completion will be the largest single employer across the Sunshine Coast. The project is expected to open its first phase in 2016.
In addition, the Sunshine Coast Airport will upgrade its terminal and become an international flight facility.
The Sunshine Coast University has also opened its Innovation Centre, its answer to Silicon Valley.
