The Australian Bureau of Statistics will conduct a survey of the construction industry in August, seeking data on the 2011-12 financial year.
Results from the survey will be used by government and industry analysts to address policy issues relating to the construction industry, and broader economy. Data from the survey will be made available mid-2013.
Major objectives of the survey are to:
-
Collect financial, employment and activity data from around 3500 construction businesses to measure size, structure and performance of the industry
-
Produce updated benchmarks for statistical use, in particular Australia’s National Accounts and GDP measures
-
Publish survey data for industry
The survey will be dispatched in August 2012 to a representative sample of construction businesses.
Businesses selected include housing construction, other residential building construction, non-residential building construction, road and bridge construction, other heavy and civil engineering construction, and construction services.
The ABS has consulted with sector representatives on the contents and design of the survey.
