McDonald’s at Kilsyth South, Victoria is the first restaurant in Australia to achieve a Green Star rating.

The Kilsyth South McDonald’s was awarded a 4-star Green Star custom design rating.

The restaurant includes:

  • bullet point update Energy efficient lighting
  • bullet point update Energy efficient mechanical systems
  • bullet point update Rainwater capture system

  • Solar panels
  • Use of recycled concrete and steel
  • Low-VOC paints
  • Drought tolerant landscaping

The Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) worked with McDonald's to develop a rating tool applicable to the restaurant chain. The custom design rating can be applied to any future McDonald’s development, but will not be available to market.

“Restaurants previously fell outside the scope of the Green Star rating system, so the collaboration with the GBCA now means that McDonald’s can join the league of Green Star leaders,” says McDonald’s Kilsyth South licensee Howard Armitage.
