The Department of Planning and Infrastructure has released a draft policy statement which proposes significant changes to the Standard Instrument LEP template.

Two changes are proposed:

  1. The introduction of a new zone, E5 – Environmental Protection.
  2. Allowing local councils to introduce subzones into their LEP (the introduction of subzones is currently prohibited).

These changes were recommended by the Local Planning Panel, which was constituted by the Minister for Planning and Infrastructure in late 2011 to investigate opportunities to inject ‘flexibility’ in the LEP template.

Comments in response to the proposed changes are due to DoPI by 29 May.

The Property Council is working with its relevant Committees to prepare a response.
