On 3 April 2012, the Victorian Government released enhanced Implementation Guidelines to the Victorian Code of Practice for the Building and Construction Industry.

The Guidelines are intended to achieve behavioural change on Victorian building sites, with the goal of improving safety, enhancing productivity and making vital infrastructure projects more affordable.

The Guidelines will apply to all on-site public building and construction work undertaken in Victoria, that are the subject of an expression of interest or request for tender on or after 1 July 2012.

Compliance with the new Guidelines will be overseen by a new Construction Code Compliance Unit in the Department of Treasury and Finance, led by Nigel Hadgkiss as the Director. He previously worked as Deputy Commissioner to the Australian Building and Construction Commissioner.
