Over 100 invited guests attended the Property Council’s inaugural Focus on Townsville cocktail function at the Perc Tucker Gallery on July 1.

John Schroder, Stockland’s National CEO of Commercial Property was joined by Senator Ian Macdonald and Cr Les Tyrell, Mayor Townsville Regional Council as speakers at the event.

Cr Les Tyrell outlined why the region is the place to be. He believes that the region offers a degree of stability to investors because of its relatively broad economic base and long term growth potential.

Senator Ian Macdonald spoke about the importance of Northern Australia, and Townsville particularly, in generating future prosperity for the nation.

Mr Schroder began his presentation by highlighting the scale of Stockalnd’s investment in north Queensland with over $900 million invested in shopping centers and more than $1 billion in master planned communities.

He then went on to outline Stockland’s plans to invest $180 million into the redevelopment of the Stockland Townsville Shopping Centre incorporating the city’s first Myer store.

Overall all three speakers noted that there are some challenges for the region to overcome, however everyone agreed that Townsville has a very positive outlook.
